Product Description A unique look of reactive glaze gradation from a sophisicated black to a soft white. Four each, dinner plates(10.5"), salad plates (7.5"), soup/cereal bowls and mugs, all stoneware body. Amazon.com Inspired by the artisan pottery of Central Java, Indonesia, Sango dinnerware items are handcrafted so that no two pieces are exactly alike. Guests will be delighted by the simple construction, slightly retro-Asian style, and the use of rich, earthy shades of color progressing from dark edges to light centers. The lustrous glaze harmonizes with a variety of decorative styles and occasions, while simultaneously creating a noticeable presence on the table. Enveloped in a dramatic black glaze covering the exterior of all bowls and plates, and the inside of each mug, the Nova Black collection also employs shades of blue, green, tan, and cream to create a distinctive dinnerware pattern. This 16-piece set encompasses four 10-1/2-inch dinner plates, four 7-1/2-inch salad plates, four 6-1/2-inch soup/cereal bowls, and four 10-ounce mugs. I received my first set of Sango Nova Brown Dinnerware, with all of the accompanying accessories, for my wedding 8 years ago. Throughout the eight years, all of the plates and a few of the bowls have chipped or broken. One I accidentally baked in the oven (new bride- didn't realize you couldn't do that!). Others have chipped mostly from the dishwasher... but it is China. I would expect that they would chip if they bang against each other too much. I just bought a replacement set this week. When I received it, some of the plates and bowls came out of the box with small chips in the glaze. Also, the plates and bowls are thinner, larger in size, and the pattern doesn't match. There is no longer a "swirl" like you see in the picture. It is just a flat, sort of dotted, cream color. The color is slightly more orange than before. The new stuff just has a cheaper feel than what I picked out 8 years ago. So, if you are looking to replace or add to your old set, think about how much money you are willing to spend, and if you have more to spend, I would splurge in a whole new set that maybe won't chip over the years like that. In a couple of years, I plan to switch to Fiesta ware.
